The Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 is a standard looking compact digital camera made to meet all the demands of anyone new to digital photography. It comes with a 14-megapixel sensor and 10x optical zoom lens which is definitely something special for a camera touted as a point and shoot digital camera.
Okay handling and build
The Fujifilm compact digital camera comes with a metal composite body which is solidly put together and gives the digital camera a good feel and weight in hand, making the camera feel rather easy to use. The controls on the digital camera are well laid out for the most part and make most of the features on the digital camera easy to access.
The front of the camera is mostly dominated by the camera’s lens and the built-in flash is situated just adjacent to the lens. On the back of the camera we find the camera’s control dial, which has been moved from its mandatory position on the top plate of the camera. The Fujifilm FinePix JZ500’s navigation pad is also on the back of the camera, together with the device’s 2.7-inch LCD screen.
Overall, the JZ500 is well built and mostly easy to use, though some people may find the control dial slightly tricky at times, being on the back of the camera.

Good features
In terms of features, the powerful FinePix model comes with a 14.1 effective megapixel CCD camera sensor together with a 10x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 28-280mm, 35mm equivalent. In helping users take better images, the Fujifilm compact digital camera also comes with Dual Image Stabilisation, a tracking AF mode, Auto Scene recognition and an Auto Cat/Dog detection feature for those who love taking pictures of their beloved pets. Fuji have also added full HD video capture to the compact digital camera with the device capturing video at 720p. Images on the Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 are also framed and reviewed using the camera’s 2.7-inch LCD screen as no viewfinder is provided.
Acceptable image quality
When it comes to image quality, the Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 produces images of a rather acceptable quality. This is, however, expected, given the features Fuji have added to the compact digital camera. Noise was kept under control by the Fujifilm compact digital camera, and the device only struggled with noise at about ISO 400. Images came out sharp for most of the time, and also came out with rather good colour. The digital camera does, however, struggle in low light conditions and at night due to the device’s shutter speed of four seconds.

The Fujifilm FinePix JZ500 is a good compact digital camera that performs rather well. It comes with features most people would consider to be standard in 2010, however they all work together rather well.
