The Panasonic DMC-ZX3, which is also known as the Lumix DMC-ZR3 to some, looks like a simple point and shoot digital camera, but comes with impressive zoom functionality which sets it apart from other compact digital cameras.
Panasonic has fitted the ZX3 with a 14-megapixel camera sensor and an 8x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation which can be boosted to 10x using the camera’s Intelligent Resolution function. The Panasonic digital camera is available in silver, blue, black or red.
Build and handling
Not much separates the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX3 from other compact digital cameras in the ZX series other than a few changes here and there. It’s tiny, light and ergonomically designed to fit in either a pair of trouser or shirt pocket, and at the same time is still packed full of features. The edges are nicely rounded, making the camera feel comfortable in hand and the controls, though small, are well placed and few in number, making up for their small size.
The ZX3 is well built, and features a tough metal body which could probably withstand the accidental drop without the sustaining too much damage. However, testing its durability in this manner is not recommended. It’s difficult to mount on a tripod due to the metal design of the tripod, and the camera also struggles to remain stable when shooting in telephoto as it comes with no viewfinder. There isn’t anything much complex about the Panasonic digital camera, and the zoom functionality of the device is well conceived.

Good features
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX3 comes with a 14-megapixel 1/2.33 inch CCD camera sensor and an 8x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 25-200mm. Images are processed by the ever-powerful Venus HD II image processing engine, ensuring very good quality images, while an intelligent Auto mode makes it as easy as pie for users to take good images with the compact digital camera.
The ZX3 can also capture video in HD at 720p, and the video files are saved in AVHCD Lite format. Recording video is also simple, as the device comes with a one-touch video record button and an integrated HDMI port for viewing content on an HD-capable display with HDMI port later. In allowing users taken super high resolution images, the device is capable of capturing images at 1080i, which comes as a cool added bonus. And if that’s not enough, Panasonic has included a Happy scene mode which sure to brighten up most scenes.
Good image quality
When it comes to image quality, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX3 performs like a wolf in sheep’s clothing, providing users with some of the best images to be produced by a digital camera in its price range. Noise only causes hassles at ISO 800, and colours are produced well, with a natural tinge. Any unwanted colour distortions are kept at bay, the built-in flash works like a charm in low-light conditions, and the Macro performance is superb, allowing users to focus from as close up as 3cm. Though images tend to come out soft, activating the Intelligent Resolution feature quickly sharpens up all images.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZX3 is sure to surprise most of its users as it produces good images time after time. It looks simple, is easy to use, and the Panasonic digital camera also provides some good value for money at its going price of £189.
