The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 is a super-slim compact digital camera featuring a 14-MP camera sensor and a 4x optical zoom lens. The FP3 comes with a cool sliding cover on the front, which not only protects the camera’s lens but also acts as the device’s power switch. The Panasonic camera is also available in 12 different colours.

Handling

The Panasonic compact digital camera is designed to be very pleasing to the eye, with its cool front sliding cover. The FP3 has also been designed to keep the digital camera as simple as possible and features only a few controls, with most of the features available on the camera being accessed through the device’s touch screen. The front of the camera looks minimalist and clean, and the back of the camera is also similarly neat. The FP3 is super slim and at that same time remains large enough to comfortably use, yet easy to store in either a shirt or trouser pocket.

Features

In terms of features, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 comes with a 14-megapixel CCD camera sensor coupled with a 4x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 35-140mm, 35mm equivalent. The FP3 is also easy to use, coming with an Intelligent Auto mode and also a Sonic Speed auto-focus and image stabilisation. The compact digital camera is capable of capturing video in HD at 720p, but there is no HDMI port. Images are framed and reviewed on the camera’s 3-inch touchscreen.

Average image quality

When it comes to image quality, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 produces images of average quality. Colours come out looking vibrant and natural when there is an adequate amount of light available, like on a bright sunny day. On slightly darker or overcast days, the image quality rescinds and noise only becomes an issue at ISO 400. However, as the ISO sensitivity increases, noise doesn’t get that much worse, while the images do soften slightly. The Macro mode performance is good, allowing users to focus on objects as close as 3 cm away. The Panasonic camera also performs well at night and in low light conditions due to the device’s maximum shutter speed of 60 seconds.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP3 is a good choice for a first camera, offering users with some good value for money. It’s not a serious digital camera, but should pass off for a summer holiday trip.

I am a bike racer. Its a great alternative to carrying my SLR on daily trip, bike rides and general use. The compact size makes it simple to carry in a shirt or pants pocket. The menu is simple and I like the touch pad option. And, most importantly, I can preset the camera so that i can ask anyone to capture my photo.
