The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2 is a waterproof digital camera succeeding the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1. The FT2 is built tough and according to Panasonic is the perfect accessory to bring along on those outdoor excursions or even when partying.

Panasonic has built the DMC-FT2 to be tough and the camera’s boxy body is reinforced with rubber padding in some places. Given that the FT2 was released in quick succession of the FT1, the two waterproof digital cameras are very similar. However, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2 has been made to be freezeproof. The controls on the FT2 are too small to be pushed with gloves on, which is a big drawback for the digital camera especially if users will be using the device in cold conditions. The digital camera, though small, isn’t that comfortable to use. The front of the camera is simple with camera’s lens and built-in flash, while the back of the camera is dominated by the device’s 2.7-inch LCD screen.
Features
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2 comes with a 14.1-megapixel camera CCD sensor coupled with a 28mm wide-angle 4.6x optical zoom lens. In making the waterproof digital camera easy to use, Panasonic has added Sonic Speed auto-focus. The FT2 can be dropped from a height of 2m, is waterproof down to 10m and freezeproof down to -10°C. The rugged digital camera is also capable of recording video in HD at 720p, while also coming with a High Dynamic and a Happy mode. No viewfinder is provided and images are framed and reviewed using the device’s 2.7-inch LCD screen.

Average image quality
In terms of image quality, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2 produces images of good quality. Images are, however, hampered by noise, significantly at ISO 400, and getting worse as the ISO is increased. Macro mode performance is good, with users being able to focus on objects as close as 5cm away. The camera also performs well at night and in low-light conditions due to its built-in flash and maximum shutter speed of 60 seconds.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2 is not that much of an improvement on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1. The FT2 sells for £250 and some users may feel slightly shortchanged by the digital camera.

What’s the major differences between this model and the new Lumix TS or TF 3 (which is rated for 40 ft)? What justifies the $150 price increase from the older to the new model?
