The Casio EX-Z450 is a simple budget-priced compact digital camera which sports a 12-megapixel camera sensor and a 4x wide-angle zoom lens. The EX-Z450 comes with some cool features and it’s the perfect digital camera to be taken on holiday, or for the buyer looking for a cheap everyday camera.

Simple design, but good build

The Casio compact digital camera comes with a simple design; however this is not to say that there is anything flimsy or simple about the build quality. The Casio EX-Z450 is well made and equally well finished. The entire camera is made of plastic, and no handgrip is provided on the Z450, which does make it rather difficult to hold at times. With only 12 external controls on the digital camera, the Casio digital camera is relatively easy to use. With the lens retracted and covered by a lens cover, the front of the camera looks pretty flush and basic, with the built-in flash also featuring on the camera’s anterior.  The back of the camera is also pretty standard, featuring a 3-inch LCD screen next to the device’s navigation pad and other controls.

Okay features

In terms of features, the Casio EX-Z450 comes with a 12-megapixel CCD camera sensor with integrated image stabilisation together with a 4x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 24-112mm. In keeping the compact digital camera’s incredibly easy to use features, the Z450 also includes an intelligent AF mode which also comes with subject tracking. The EX-Z450 also comes with its own photo editing feature called Dynamic Photo, which allows images to be cut and pasted onto different backgrounds. In keeping up with the times, HD video capture is also provided by the EX-Z450 at 720p. No type of viewfinder is provided with the Casio digital camera and images are framed and reviewed using the device’s 3-inch LCD screen.

Image quality

Noise is the Casio EX-Z450’s biggest enemy when it comes to image quality. Taking the category of digital camera’s the device is placed in, and considering the price tag of £129, the Casio EX-Z450 produces images of just okay quality. The EX-Z450 is not the best camera for night photography, with a maximum shutter speed of only 4 seconds. The built-in flash does, however, work well at reducing red-eye and providing overall good exposure. Users can only focus on an object as close as 10cm, which makes the macro mode performance rather disappointing.

The Casio EX-Z450 is an average camera. Users shouldn’t expect much from the Casio compact digital camera and its limited photographic capabilities.
