The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 is the latest superzoom camera from Panasonic coming into a market which is overpopulated and highly competitive.
Fitted with a 14-megapixel camera sensor and a 24x wide-angle zoom lens the DMC-FZ100 is kitted out to take on the best of the best when it comes to powerful zoom cameras. Panasonic also promises that the digital camera doesn’t compromise on image quality meaning that the latest Panasonic bridge camera should make for an excellent back-up to any of the Panasonic Micro Four Thirds cameras.
Build and design
At first glance, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 comes with the traditional bridge camera design meaning that it comes with a bulky handgrip and extendable lens which gives it that mini-DSLR camera look. Succeeding the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ38, the DMC-FZ100 picks a number of design cues from its predecessor with a few touch-ups here and there. The front of the camera, though mostly being dominated by the powerful zoom lens remains quite simple, while the back of the camera looks less sparse featuring the devices LCD screen viewfinder and other controls. Overall the Panasonic superzoom camera is well built, with good weight to it and also does well to keep as simple as possible in its design. The controls are well spaced and placed making the camera easy to use which is definite plus.
Amazing features
When it comes to features the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 comes with a 14.1-effective megapixel CMOS sensor and a 24x wide-angle zoom lens with a focal range of 25-600mm. Ensuring impeccable image quality, the Panasonic superzoom camera has been fitted with the renowned Venus Engine FHD processing engine together with Intelligent Resolution technology. Blurry images are avoided all thanks to the Power O.I.S. anti-shake system and the bridge camera also features an Intelligent Auto mode making the device accessible to amateur photographers. The Panasonic digital camera also comes with RAW image support, manual controls and a maximum ISO speed of ISO 1600. An electronic viewfinder together with a 3-inch LCD screen is also provided on top of HD video recording at 1080p at 30fps.

Very good image quality
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ100 produces images of very good quality, with good natural colour and sharpness. Noise is kept at bay up to ISO 400, while images remain sharp throughout the superzoom camera’s focal range. Night photography is child’s play with a maximum shutter speed of 60 seconds while the DMC-FZ100 also performs wonders indoors with its pop-up flash removing any red-eye effect and producing well-exposed images in low light conditions. The Macro mode performance is also spectacular, allowing user to focus from as close as 1cm away.
When it comes to superzoom camera it gets no better than the Panasonic DMC-FZ100.

You can not record 5 seconds of audio against a still picture frame, thus camera lacks the best feature that the older dmc-fz50 and dmc-fz5 and others all had. No photographer notes, no voice memo. — what good are scores of vacation photographs — if you can’t id the who, what , where they are taken information like in the older cameras——- what a horrible shame and loss that they dropped the feature I liked the most———

After my FZ 50 was stolen. I was seriously thinking of buying a Nikon D700 or may be a D90 and gingerly I was compromising for Nikon D5000. When I got the news that the FZ100 is on the way to India. I abandoned the idea and said to my self, hey! it is worth waiting for the arrival of Panasonic DMC FZ100

@Braintree, I guess its possible to add few seconds of voice for a still shot and it can be accessed through the MENU, I’ve seen it from some where I guess… just check out “dpreview” or other sources regarding that.
but Another cool thing is, you can take the still shots while you are in movie mode and recording simultaneously.

Noise is apparent at ISO 400 but becomes much more obvious at ISO 800 along with smearing of fine details, the fastest speed of ISO 1600 is rather unusable. This is a similar performance to it’s predecessor Lumix FZ38, so there is no improvement at all in this area. The merely average quality electronic viewfinder is also disappointingly, the same as the one on the FZ38.
