The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a recently released point-and-shoot digital camera following on the good reputation the TX-series of Sony compact digital cameras has built over the past couple of years. The TX-7 comes with a 10-megapixel camera sensor and 4x optical zoom lens and is perfectly suited for beginners looking for a small, but capable digital camera which can take some nice pics.

Build and design

When it comes to the build and design, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 looks sleek and almost flawless with its stylish metallic design. In hand, the compact digital camera feels more like a fashion accessory and the only visible buttons on the point-and-shoot digital camera are the power button and shutter release. Adding to the TX-7’s overall style, the digital camera features a 3.5-inch touch screen. The Sony digital camera is very easy to handle and even easier to put away after use thanks to its minimal and thins design. Overall, it’s built well, handles well and is definitely close to the top of the list when it come to the most stylish digital cameras available on the market.

Good features

In terms of features, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 comes with a 10-megapixel 1/2.4-inch CMOS camera sensor using backlight technology and a 4x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 25-100mm, 35mm equivalent. Making the compact digital camera easy to shoot with, the TX-7 comes with an extensive 9-point AF mode which also includes Face Detection, Centre-weighted AF, Spot AF and Flexible Spot AF.  No viewfinder of any sort is provided with the digital camera and images are framed and reviewed using the 3.5-inch LCD, 921K dots touch screen. The TX-7 also comes with an ISO range of 125-1600 and is capable of recording HD video at an impressive 1080i, on top of being capable of shooting continuously at 10fps. Other features which make shooting with the Sony TX-series digital camera a breeze include Sony’s Intelligent Auto; Easy mode and 12 other scene modes.

Average image quality

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 takes images of average quality, and is nothing unexpected from a relatively good point-and-shoot digital camera. The Sony digital camera does struggle slightly with noise, and images come out a little soft at ISO 200 and show visible noise at ISO 400. However, colour produced by the camera is good and natural looking with good contrasts and overall exposure. The macro mode performance is also good and users are able to focus on objects from as close as 3.3 inches. The TX-7 also handles low-light photography very well with no red-eye effect being picked up when the camera is used indoors and images coming out well exposed.

Overall, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX7 is a good compact digital camera. It’s immaculately designed, comes with some good features and takes some okay images. The touch screen the point-and-shoot digital camera comes with might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but with the digital camera going for just under £221, it makes for a relatively good buy which should be considered by anyone looking for a small and stylish capable digital camera.
