The Canon EXPO 2010 is currently underway in New York and so far we’ve seen not only the world’s largest camera sensor coming out of the exhibition, but also the world’s largest CMOS imaging sensor which will be made available to consumers soon. But the Canon imaging product which seems to have everyone’s head turning and tongues wagging is the Canon 4K Concept Camera which looks like something which could be expecting in stores a few years from now, or not.
The Canon prototype camera
What makes the Canon 4K Concept Camera so amazing is its ability to capture still images and HD video in 4K resolution. 4K resolution is new standard which doesn’t only stand for a single type of resolution, but is more of a collective term for a large number of 4K resolutions such as Full Aperture 4K (4096×3112 pixels), Academy 4K (3656×2664 pixels), and Digital Cinema 4K (4096×1714 and 3996×2160 pixels). With the range of pixels available for use with the Canon 4K Concept Camera the photographic possibilities are almost endless and with the Canon prototype camera also coming with a 2/3”, 8-megapixel CMOS sensor, LCD screen and being capable of shooting videos at 60 frames per second. What is even more amazing is that Canon was also showing off 8K LCD panels alongside the Canon prototype camera. However, whether we’ll ever see them used in a digital camera remains a mystery.
A spectacular event
The Canon EXPO 2010 takes place once every five years, making it a spectacular and stellar event which Canon describes as an, ‘extraordinary demonstration of how Canon is uniquely positioned to say, “We Speak Image,”’. Joe Adachi, president and chief executive officer, Canon USA, Inc., also had to add that, ‘The groundbreaking products and solutions on display at EXPO are transforming the way businesses operate and how people across the globe share their experiences, reflecting our commitment to responsible innovation and our corporate culture of kyosei’.
Given its great stature, the Canon EXPO 2010 is sadly an invitation only event and is held at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.
