The Canon Powershot S95 takes over from the ever-popular Canon Powershot S90. It comes with a 10 megapixel camera sensor and a 3.8x optical zoom lens and awesome features aimed at the more serious photographer. This is not to say that the Canon compact digital camera doesn’t cater for the amateur photographer, but users with more experience will definitely be able to get more out of the digital camera.

Build and design

When it comes to build and design, the Canon Powershot S95 looks stunning coming with an all-black body which is very similar to the S90. The S95 is however bigger that the S90, but comes with a tactile coating which makes to easier to hold onto as it doesn’t come with a handgrip. The Canon compact digital camera is very slim and easily slips into a trouser pocket or handbag after use. The front of the camera looks pretty simple, but sleek and is mostly dominated by the camera’s lens. The back of the camera is a slightly more complicated affair and users will find a 3-inch LCD display and other controls. The top plate can is also a bit more complicated, but this is not to say that the S95 is a difficult camera to use. Overall, the Canon digital camera is well put-together, looks classy and stylish and is made for quick shooting and storage.

Good features

In terms of features, the Canon Powershot S95 comes fitted with a 10 megapixel CMOS camera sensor and a 3.8x optical zoom lens with a focal range of 28-105mm. No type of any viewfinder is provided and images are framed and reviewed using the 3-inch 461K dots LCD screen. A truly interesting feature of the Canon compact digital camera is its ability to shoot in different screen ratios thanks to its Multi-shooting aspect feature. Making the S95 easy to use it comes with Smart Auto, but for the more experienced users the innovative Control Ring feature comes with the camera, allowing users to flip through different modes on the digital camera through twisting the lens barrel. The S95 is also capable of recording video in HD at 720p and also comes with a full range of manual modes and RAW support.

Very good image quality

The Canon Powershot S95 produces images of very good quality which can only be expected from a high-end compact digital camera of its nature. The Canon compact digital camera handles noise well and images remain noise-free from ISO 80 up to ISO 400. Images come out with good sharpness and natural-looking colour. The pop-up flash works well indoors and images come out well exposes with no red-eye effect. Night photography is a breeze for the S95 which comes with a 15 second maximum shutter speed and the Macro mode performance is okay, allowing user to focus on objects from as close at 5cm.
