Sony released the Sony A580 alongside the Sony A560, and together, the two were the first Sony Alpha DSLR cameras to feature full video recording.
The A580 is really an immaculate camera which is aimed at the slightly more advanced photographer and also goes at a reasonable price comparable to other digital SLR cameras available on the market. This is remembering that the Sony A33 and Sony A55 are in fact Sony SLT cameras and don’t use a single lens reflex camera system.
Perfect for the videographer
If you’re more of a videographer but you also have a tendency to get the urge to shoot some stunning images then the Sony A580 is the DSLR camera for you. Being one of the first Sony Alpha DSLR cameras to features full HD video recording at 1080p, we haven’t had any reports of the A580 overheating when it comes to recording video, unlike the other Sony Alpha SLT cameras.
A quick shooter
The Sony A580 comes with a 16.2-megapixel camera sensor which works really with the 5-point phase-detection autofocus system. The APS-C sized camera sensor also features integrated sensor-shifting image stabilisation. The Sony Alpha DSLR camera is also quite the speed freak when it comes to shooting and comes with a continuous shooting mode which captures images at 7fps.
Really good image quality
Image quality is really good and the images also show good sharpness all thanks to the Sony A580’s noise reduction system. You can get away with shooting relatively noise-free images up to ISO 1600 and even further in some cases. Colour is also good, and you can tackle almost any shooting environment day and night with the A580.
Why it’s for serious photographers
Sony has been careful to make sure the A580 should be taken seriously as a DSLR camera for the advanced photographer. This is why the Sony Alpha DSLR camera comes with an extensive Live View mode and an optical viewfinder for the purists. However also looking to keep things a little simple, the A580 also comes with a dedicated movie record function which is really useful.
Build and design
In terms of build and design, the A580 still follows the typical Sony Alpha design motif; however it is slightly on the larger side of things compared to other mid-range DSLR camera. The device feels really good in hand, and it has a nice hefty weight which makes it easier to get a get hold onto. The controls are also really well-placed on the camera and Sony has also added a swinging 3-inch LCD screen.
With Christmas just around the corner, the Sony A580 is the perfect gift to get to spoil someone you know who’s just getting into photography. Going for just under £610, it’s actually provides really good value for money and comes highly recommended.
