The Nikon Coolpix was only just released and looks to replace the Nikon Coolpix P7000 as the new high-end digital camera of choice. This is despite Nikon calling the new compact digital camera an entirely brand new camera and not an improvement on an existing Nikon camera.

It’s pretty compact

Comparing the Nikon Coolpix P7000 to the new P300 it’s pretty obvious that there’s a lot which is really different about the two digital cameras. The new P300 has a smaller body which fits easily in one’s palm, it also doesn’t comes with a viewfinder which is why the camera body is slightly smaller.

Bland styling, but good image quality

The P300 doesn’t exactly scream stylish and it looks pretty bland when the pop-up flash is not in use. You could go as far as describing it as a box that captures images. The Nikon Coolpix P300 produces images of good quality which show good noise and pleasing sharpness. On the downside, though, images could be a little sharper towards the edges sometimes. Images taken in panorama mode could also be a lot better.

Features

Using the camera seems a little challenging at first, which means that the P300 is not the best digital camera for first timers. However, after some time it quickly becomes easy to make shooting with the P300 a little easier. Some of the features which you can expect to find on the compact digital camera include a 12.2-megapixel camera sensor which is coupled with a 4.2x zoom lens.

Auto and manual shooting modes

Looking to cater both to the amateur and more experienced photographer, the Coolpix P300 also comes with a variety of automatic and manual shooting modes. HD video recording at 1080i is also provided and surprisingly works quite well.

The Nikon Coolpix P300 currently carries a price tag of £300. It’s sure to offer really good value for money and produces some really high quality images. The features are also good, and the camera is built well though not exactly stylish.
