Using the Sony Exmor R 16.2-megapixel CMOS sensor, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX7 has powerful image processing behind its sleek exterior. Great in low-light conditions, the new Carl Zeiss lens makes for a great improvement on previous models.

Impressive optics

The decision to replace the Sony G lens with the 5x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens makes for a huge improvement in contrast and image quality as Carl Zeiss have been leaders in lens manufacture for decades. With a maximum aperture of f/2.6 this camera does do well in low-light conditions. Images and video can be viewed on the 2.8-inch LCD screen at the back of the camera.

Modes and functions

A Superior Auto Mode will take three images of the same scene and then combine them to create a photo will a massive range, which will mean higher colour saturation and fuller detail especially in high-contrast lighting situations.

For the 3D enthusiasts, not only does the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX7 have a standard 3D Stills Image Capture Mode but it also has a 3D Sweep Panorama Mode which can produce some breathtaking landscapes. HD video can also be easily accessed by holding a single button down no matter what mode you are in but if you are already in video mode then a single touch will do.

With 33 scenes that the camera can detect and expose for, the photographer’s decisions can be kept to an absolute minimum by leaving it all up to the camera. All you will have to do is push the button and it will do the rest. Portraits are also improved by the Background Defocus Mode which will automatically blur the background giving emphasis to the main subject and creating the look of a shallow depth-of-field.

Connectivity

3D images can only be viewed on a 3D-compatible screen and the camera can be connected to your 3D TV via the mini HDMI. A USB connection cable is also provided.
