It’s true that a flash can damage a photograph by making it look way too harsh. But that doesn’t mean you should avoid a flash altogether as there are times when it’s worth the risk – particularly in low light conditions when there’s a lot of movement to contend with.
As for the Canon 430EX Flash, it has the capability to automatically compensate to the environment, giving just the right amount of light to illuminate the subject.
Working with a Canon 430EX Flash
The Canon 430EX Flash is an external flash unit that is compatible with Canon’s digital SLR cameras. How it works is that while it flashes just enough light for illumination purposes, it shoots at a faster shutter speed. Yes, this intelligent little package can work out how much light it should release to expose the photograph.
By pointing the light straight up towards a medium height white ceiling, you get to have a great fill in flash. The side-effect? Well, it’s positive – say goodbye to under- and over-exposed photos. This flash allows for a more natural looking image and people won’t have that flash-photo blank-eyed look.
Faster focus
If you’re living or traveling in places without much light or shooting indoors in low-light conditions you will get a lot of good use out of the Canon 430EX Flash. Also, you get to focus much faster with this flash than with a built-in one. That’s because this flash can focus on the subject easily, eliminating the need for a laborious number of test flashes.
You might find, once you get the knack of it, that you’ll stop relying so much on low aperture numbers and high ISOs. But then, you can leave the flash in automatic mode and still get well-exposed photographs.
