Nikon has announced its latest answer to the elements. The Coolpix AW100 has been designed to withstand all that nature can throw at it without compromising on image quality.

‘With detailed engineering and advanced technology, the Coolpix AW100 is the rugged compact camera for the adventure enthusiast who never slows down and needs a camera that delivers amazing images and stunning full HD movies without a second thought,’ said Lisa Osorio, general manager of marketing at Nikon Inc. ‘The AW100 is as tough as the user that needs it, and it offers a sturdy exterior and advanced technology that enables users to capture life’s triumphant moments.’

Rough and tough

The AW100 can be taken underwater to a depth of 10 meters which means that you never have an excuse to miss a diving shot again. It can survive a drop of up to five feet and withstand freezing temperatures of around 14 degrees Fahrenheit. It also has the honour of being the smallest and thinnest of the rugged camera generation, at only 0.9 inches thin.

Specs

Not only is the Nikon Coolpix AW100 an impressively built machine but it contains some fantastic specs under that rugged hood, too. It has been given a 16-megapixel backside illuminated image sensor which has improved performance in low-light conditions. Low-light situations are also simultaneously tackled with a high sensitivity mode that offers and ISO of 3200.

The AW100 has been given a 5x wide-angle zoom Nikkor ED glass lens for superior imaging and Nikon’s patented Vibration Reduction system will ensure that you capture blur-free images no matter what the light looks like.

Features

One of the new innovative features the AW100 has been endowed with is the useful Action Control Operation. This will allow you to set your camera to perform certain actions when you move it a certain way. For example, you could set it to start recording when you shake it.

Available from September, the Nikon Coolpix AW100 will come in a choice of black, blue or bright orange.
