The Casio EX-Z550 is a compact digital camera offering a 14-megapixel camera sensor together with a 4x wide angle zoom lens. The EX-Z550 is a basic compact digital camera offering users speed and reliability on a tight budget. Its small size makes it perfect for taking anywhere and also the perfect camera for anyone starting out.

Simple handling and design

The Casio compact digital camera is a good looking digital camera following the tried and tested formula of keeping it simple when developing a budget digital camera. The Casio EX-Z550 comes in a range of different colours such as black, red, blue and pink. The Casio digital camera also feels good in hand even though it doesn’t carry much weight, and is also comfortable to use when shooting images. The controls on the camera are simple and well laid out, making the EX-Z550 rather easy to use and accessible. The back of the camera may look rather flimsy to some, due to the digital camera’s plastic body, while the 2.7-inch LCD screen and the camera’s controls are also on the back of the camera.

Nice features

In terms of features, the Casio EX-Z550 comes with a 14.1 effective megapixel 1/2.3-inch CCD camera sensor coupled with a 4x optical zoom lens with 26-104mm focal range. The camera’s sensor also comes with integrated image stabilisation to keep images shake free. The Casio digital camera also comes with an AF mode for easy shooting and a Dynamic Photo and Art Shot mode, for creative added effects. The Casio compact digital camera can record videos in HD at 720p. The EX-Z550 has also been fitted with Casio’s Engine 5.0 image processor.

Reasonable image quality

In terms of image quality, the Casio EX-Z550 produces images of reasonable quality for a budget camera. Images are generally well exposed, with good natural looking colour. Images, on the whole, come out sharp, while there were some images which came out slightly soft at times. Images did experience a few white balance issues at times, however when assessing noise, images did soften at ISO 800. Evident noise only became a problem as the ISO sensitivity was increased, with a maximum ISO speed of 6400 available.

Looking at the Casio EX-Z550, there’s nothing special about the Casio compact digital camera when it comes to either the digital camera’s design or image quality. Retailing at £115, the EX-Z550 delivers what’s expected from the budget digital camera and shouldn’t disappoint most people who purchase it.
